Wolf Sanctuary of PA Chooses Dominion Hemp Bedding for Comfort and Insulation
Just north of Lititz, nestled in the wooded hills of Pennsylvania's Dutch Country, you'll find Wolf Sanctuary of PA, a peaceful refuge for gray wolves and wolf-dogs. For over four decades, it has provided a haven for these misunderstood creatures on their 80-acre property.
Having suffered from myths and misconceptions for ages, wolves have faced conservation challenges worldwide. They have also been improperly kept as pets in homes.
In 1700, it is estimated that there were between 250,000 and 2 million wolves in what is now the United States. This number has significantly decreased due to habitat loss, hunting, and government extermination programs in the 19th and 20th centuries.
The current wolf population in the United States is estimated to be around 6,000. Most of these wolves are found in the Northern Rockies, Great Lakes region, and Pacific Northwest. Conservation efforts like Wolf Sanctuary of PA have helped restore some populations, but they remain far below historic levels.
Their endangered status has fluctuated over the past few decades. They lost federal protection in parts of their range in 2011 and entirely in 2020 before regaining federal safeguards in 2022. Their conservation status remains controversial, with annual hunting bounties still in place where populations have recovered.
Wolf Sanctuary of PA is devoted to ensuring that wolves receive top-quality care and enrichment, restoring the dignity of these intelligent animals.
The sanctuary is home to over 50 gray wolves and wolf dogs.
This will be the first time Dominion Hemp's bedding has been used with wolves. The Sanctuary pack should find our bedding warm in winter, cool in summer and comfortable all year round.
Dominion Hemp is excited to be part of Sanctuary's mission to provide safe homes for wolves and educate the public about the history and nature of these endangered species.
